The Source is a fascinating new interview series designed and executed by celebrated artist Doug Aitken. Aitken artfully presents intimate and revealing interviews that give the audience a new lens through which to view the creative artists we are so familiar seeing, bringing attention to the lesser-seen process of creativity. I first heard about the project at the Sundance Film festival, which is part of the New Frontier program.

At Sundance, The installation was constructed inside of a custom built, 2,000-square-feet, circular structure called the Pavilion. It was a total sensory circus, with six different videos from The Source being projected simultaneously on the walls. Did I mention that the building was translucent, so during the night the videos were also visible from the outside? Pretty genius.

The interviews are stacked with amazing talent,  including Tilda Swindon, sculptor Liz Glynn, James Murphy, Beck and 19 other incredibly impressive artists.

Aitken speaking about his project:

"The Source examines the entire process of creation, not just the finished result, and speaking directly with the creators whose work has the ability to steer culture in a significant way, The Source takes viewers on a fast-moving road trip through the modern landscape of creativity.”

The website (found here) is an aethetic dream - one of the most thoughtfully and beauditfully online portals I've seen. It is full of the videos from the project and is guaranteed to suck away hours of your time as you listen to these artists talk about their deepest passions. The site is also continuously updated, so check in for new videos from time to time.
