From left to right: guitarist John Storie, DO I NEED TO TELL YOU WHO THAT IS, vocalist Hilary Gardner. Photo credit Astrid Stawiarz for Café Carlyle. I’m not going to pretend that I’m just a regular person with a working knowledge of Jeff Goldblum’s mainstream oeuvre who happened to be lucky enough to catch the actor playing some jazz music with his band on Tuesday night. I should be honest with you, reader, because me seeing Jeff Goldblum ... Read More
Our favorite psychedelic bubblegum feminist pop punk band out of Seattle, Tacocat, is back with another amazing music video for their new song "Bridge to Hawaii." You might remember them from their hilarious video for "Crimson Wave" (a pop punk surf rock anthem for periods) that was complete with some bodacious green screen surfing and dancing human crabs. "Bridge to Hawaii" is another hit off the band's second album NVM, released on Hardly Art, which came ... Read More

We are super psyched for one of our favorite feminist-graphic-artist-memoirists, Alison Bechdel, who, we just found out, is a 2014 MacArthur Fellow. That means that Bechdel now has $625,000 to use for snacks while writing and drawing about the complexities of queer lifestyles and histories. We look forward to seeing what kind of creativity that amount of snacks can produce. If I only had that much money for cashews... Each year, based on a kind of mysterious ... Read More
Scottish artist Katie Paterson is growing books starting with 1,000 saplings, as a part of a 100-year book-art project called “Future Library.” A piece of land in Oslo, Norway is being cleared out for the future-book trees, along with a space for the future manuscripts. Here is the catch though, every year, for the next 100 years, a new author will be chosen to contribute to this library, but these works cannot be read until 2114! So…basically, ... Read More
Hacking is great, but only when the hackers are on your side. Unfortunately, last Friday September 5, the International Women’s Media Foundation was hacked, defaced and had most of its original content destroyed. The IWMF is a foundation that supports the empowerment of women journalists worldwide. As the website stated in a blog post September 12, the hacker was based out of Turkey, and due to the severity of the attack it is suspected the hack was intended ... Read More

Oddflower is a story project that launched on July 29 to showcase women of color who felt like they hid their passions growing up for fear of judgment. Some of the women Boston interviewed so far are punk rockers, and other ladies who may have hid their musical interests and talents because it wasn’t culturally "normal" or appreciated among their peers. She ... Read More
