Formed in 1995 by songwriter Kiya Heartwood and multi-instrumentalist Miriam Davidson, Wishing Chair has released four CD's on the Terrakin label. The duo is dedicated to writing, recording and performing across the US. They teach songwriting workshops, do artists-in-the-school residencies, promote Folk and songwriting events, and produce and play on CDs by other artists. Wishing Chair takes it's cultural work and political responsibilities seriously. Kiya and Miriam spend many weeks a year helping to organize, publicize and energize organizations focused on Social Justice, Environmental, Animal, Native, Women's and Gay Rights causes. The band's name comes from a rock formation in Northern Ireland where it is said you can sit and make a wish and your dreams will come true. That's what Wishing Chair is all about!
