In case you missed it, this past November The New School in New York City hosted a public dialogue between the historic Black feminist theorist bell hooks and the brilliant author, professor, and TV show host Melissa Harris-Perry as they took on topics of race, gender, politics, activism, and self-love. Needless to say, it was a phenomenal opportunity to see a glimpse of the conversations that must litter both of their intellectually-rich lives, both women speaking with honesty and at points agreeing to disagree- which is both the worst and best part about academic/intellectual conversations.
The women discuss the realities of race in America, issues of Black representation, and other smart and terribly important things that every self-proclaimed feminist should give a good listen to.
Even if you take this piece by piece, it's worth getting through. You will be smarter and bubbling with good critical thoughts once you do.
