Women Make Movies

Posted by: Web Intern in General |

You may have read the depressing, but sadly, not shocking, news that the overwhelming majority of screen directors for major studios are still older white dudes. CNN.com featured an article today explaining what 'cankles' are and how to deal with them.  Though I've had the word 'cankles' in my vocabulary for several years, this story treated it as though it were a new thing. Oya Singin’ Ladies!

Posted by: Web Intern in General |

Last week I had the good luck to get a free pass to Oya, an annual outdoor indie music fest in Oslo, Norway. The five-day, five-stage extravaganza is a showcase for Norwegian acts, but makes good use of other groups (e.g., Band of Horses, The Very Best, Jay Reatard, Monotonix) caught in the summer festival maelstrom. Oya enlisted 200 bands, ranging from the lightest indie-pop to the blackest metal (this is Norway, after all). A little over ... Read More
