I don't understand what is so BUST-y about this.

I love BUST and watch this as a guilty pleasure, these women are sooo disgusting, I cant help myself (altho I find the NJ wives even more dispicable and therefore more watchable)

Noticing a fairly disturbing trend here at BUST- what's with all the ladies-hating-on-ladies action? The 'Real Housewives' franchise is nothing but women tearing down other women in a public space, and another recent BUST feature ('STFU, Parents!') seems to have degenerated into a public mommy-shaming. As a mom, feminist and long-term Bust subscriber (subscription since '99!) I'm becoming increasingly uncomfortable with the content Bust considers publish-worthy. And with the state of the economy, New Bust might be a luxury I might have to reconsider....

I've got to say, I really didn't expect to see this promoted here. Disappointed.

I'm sorry but did I stumble on the Lifetime Movie Network site or did I in fact arrive at Bust's site...boo hiss Bust. Oddly I actually have better things to do than join the "dumbification" of America. Thanks for the invite though.

mjm, not all feminists think like you. I wish more feminists realized that. This is way I stopped going to feministing as much because it seemed like they were saying, if you watch listen to or enjoy this or this than you aren't a feminist.

I can see how some may think of the show as anti-feminist, but there is more than one way to look at it. The women on the show are self made and some run their own businesses, have written books, and have started charities. The show makes me think about how successful, self-made women are conditioned in this society to interact with other successful women. While cattiness and jealousy may not be the only way successful women treat each other, I think the fact that this often occurs shows that women are raised to be competitive with one another in a way that men are not (à la Mean Girls). This is just one take on it; there are a number of other perspectives the show ranging from guilty pleasure to abomination but whichever way you see it, it certainly raises questions.

I don't know... Living in the greater Los Angeles area I see women that really go out of their way to emulate the Real Wives of Orange County. And quite frankly, it's disgusting to me. Shallow women with lots of money. Not exactly feminist since I can't seem to figure out how they got their money other than marrying it. Guilty pleasure or not, I get enough stupid rich white women in my real life, why do I want to watch it on television?

Come on now. It's just a tv show & a pretty damn funny one at that! Whether you're laughing at these women or sometimes, with them...it's a show & a very, very successful one at that. Are these women and their ridiculously outlandish behavior role models I would want my children following? NOOO! Hell no! But, I see a huge difference between the O.C. Housewives & the NY ones. ALLLLL the NY wives - except for that stupid countess - are self-made. Honestly, they are. They deserve respect for that and their accomplishments. Do they act like stubborn, spoiled, bitches! Hell yeah! I find it a study in sociology and an hour of pure amusement more than anything else. People please...don't look for the "feminism" in everything. Sometimes it's nice just to watch something and, love it or hate it, just take it for what it is!
