So far, online reactions to last night’s premiere of the new ABC Family teen fat camp series Huge are mixed—and for good reason. Created by Winnie Holzman of My So-Called Life and her daughter Savannah Dooley, the show stars Hairspray’s adorable Nikki Blonsky (right) and the gorgeous Hayley Hasselhoff (David’s daughter, left), and is being touted as the antidote to all those skinny teen ensemble shows that relegate fat girls to the margins. ... So most people of have an idea of what Wonder Woman wears, right? That little red, white, blue, and gold bustier/hot pants combo, with those high red boots, wrists cuffs and let’s not forget that fancy headband. You’d have to say that Wonder Woman is definitely recognizable. I mean, don’t you just wonder where she holds stuff or if she ever has had a wardrobe malfunction when she’s kicking butt? I do.
Well, that’s all about to change. ... Read More

The New York Times has a blog post up today about how exercise science has ignored women. The piece cites New Zealand researcher Dr. David Rowlands, who did a study on male cyclists in 2008 that found they exhibited a 4% performance gain if they ate protein and carbs after workouts, as opposed to just carbs. Her illustrations are so good and so clever that the blog was recently nominated for a Webby and won the 2010 Bloggie ... Read More

While Plan B works for three days after unprotected intercourse, the new drug–ella–is effective for five. Those two extra days can really count if you live in a rural area or face other obstacles to getting Plan B within that three-day window. Over the past five years, doctor’s have made many breakthroughs in the battle to preserve and prolong women’s fertility.
And while I think we’re all familiar with invitro at this point, you may not know much about ovarian transplantation.

I didn’t discover the great filmmaker Agnès Varda; she discovered me, staring at the posters in the window of her editing suite on the Rue Daguerre in Paris. A tiny, quizzical old lady, she approached, smiling and asked, “Have you discovered something interesting?” Indeed I had! “La Varda” is one of the brilliant filmmakers to have emerged from the French “nouvelle vague.” In over 40 films, she has ...
