Authors/bad-ass bloggers Kate Harding (of Shapely Prose ) and Marianne Kirby (of The Rotund ) will be appearing at Re/Dress NYC in Brooklyn. Their book, Lessons from the Fat-o-Sphere: Quit Dieting and Declare a Truce with Your Body , came out on Tuesday and they are making several appearances across the country in support of it. There's going to be a dance party at this one.
The Re/Dress appearance is on June 5. Some of their other appearances include stops in Philly and Boston this weekend and Kate will be appearing alone in Chicago next Friday (May 15). There are also tentative later appearances in St Louis and Minneapolis later in June.
I just got this book yesterday and I'm a few chapters in. So far, it's pretty great. I was already on board with the concept of Health at Every Size and the radical notion that diets suck, but I'm still learning from it. Anyone who isn't already into it (especially if you think that fatties just need to eat less) should read it to learn a new concept and open up their mind a little. I'll probably post again when I actually finish the book, so that's all I'll say about it for now.
Re/Dress NYC is a plus-sized vintage store (I know, swoon) located on Boerum Place in Brooklyn, between Pacific and Dean, just off the F/G trains at Bergen St. -Liza
