Check out BUST cover girl Kathy Griffin’s hilarious interview on Larry King Live last night! She took on Jon & Kate, Speidi and Sarah Palin AND she talked about the awesome charity she works with, Vet Dogs.
We know you love Kathy, so don’t forget to tune in to the season premiere of My Life on the D List at 10 EST tonight on Bravo. They taped one of the episodes during our BUST cover shoot at Kathy’s house, I hope it makes the cut, even tho I am nervousville about being on camera- oh well, if I end up looking like a dork, ya’ll can suck it! Jezebel has a list up of their Top 20 Feminist TV Characters . It includes Liz Lemon, Lisa Simpson, Murphy Brown, Marcy D’Arcy (from Married with Children) and Rory Gilmore, among others.
What do you think? Is it a good list? Is it a complete list? Who would you add or remove from it? I don’t watch a ton of TV, but I was surprised that they didn’t include anyone from Buffy. And what about Daria?
Also, is there a difference between ‘’feminist character'’ and ‘’strong female character?'’ I’m not 100% sure where to draw the line on that one. Of the shows that I do watch, I see a lot of strong woman characters, but I wouldn’t call them all feminist - and I can’t quite put my finger on why. Is it because Catherine Willows (CSI) can lead the entire crime lab but still conducts investigations with her boobs half out? I don’t know (and who says you have to be un-sexy to be a feminist, anyway?). What do you guys think? -Liza

Paul H-O is just a regular ol’ Joe who crashes art gallery openings, video camera in hand, and entertains artists with witty assessments of their work, thus gaining quite a fan following in the New York art scene in the 1990’s. One of the ladies he won over was the internationally acknowledged, press-shy Cindy Sherman. Sherman was regarded as one of the world’s most significant and talented visual artists, famed for her chameleon-like self-portraits deconstructing women’s images in pop culture and art. Miss Sherman invites Paul into her world for exclusive interviews and videotaped encounters. He gains an unprecedented insight into her artistic process and a romantic relationship quickly follows suit. Read the rest of this entry »
Showtime is launching a new show, “Nurse Jackie,” starring one of our fave ladies of all time: Edie Falco. And we have the ENTIRE first episode for you to watch, right here at BUST.com. So make like you’re busy at work, pop on your headphones, and enjoy.
My first filmed interview! Here I am looking ridiculous and trying to talk about the Craftacular…at the Craftacular! It was hectic and a total blast, and thanks to everyone who came, was a vendor, took pictures, Dj’d, or just helped the day run smoothly! I could not have done any of it without dedicated BUST interns and staff. It was an extremely special day for BUST. Of course special thanks to the crafty folks at Provocraft, the green thumbs at Trees Not Trash, Joshua Katcher and the Farm Sanctuary! Shout outs to Verve music, Fresh Minerals, O-wool, ModCloth, Izze, and Eyekiss Films. Stay tuned to BUST.com as we are planning more Craftaculars that you won’t want to miss! xxoo

A super-cool series will be premiering on the Sundance Channel, highlighting some of the greatest contemporary women artists. The fabulous line-up will include: Cindy Sherman, Marina Abramovic, Agnes Martin, Ghada Amer, Joan Mitchell, Nancy Spero, Alice Neel, Kiki Smith and Swoon. The series will begin next Monday, May 25.
Last night was the series finale of Scrubs . In this intern’s humble opinion, it went out well. It managed to celebrate its 8-year run but it didn’t sacrifice characters or formula for the sake of sentimentality. J.D. was still a nerdy dreamer, Elliot was still slightly neurotic, Cox was still a sarcastic grump (with a heart), the Janitor was still psychotic and Turk was still, well, Turk.
I think it honored itself really well. They tied up all the loose ends without buttoning everything up airtight for the rest of the characters’; lives (like Will & Grace did).
I won’t say anything more specific so I don’t ruin it for anyone who has it waiting at home in their DVR. Read the rest of this entry »
Beatrice (Bea) Arthur, known best as tall, deep husky-voiced and witty characters Maude, by the 70s sitcom of the same name, and Dorothy Zbornak on the 80s sitcom The Golden Girls, sadly passed away this weekend of cancer at the age of 86. She will be missed.
Arthur was an accomplished actress, comedienne and singer. She won Emmys for both Maude and The Golden Girls, and a Tony Award for her work in the Broadway musical Mame.
One of her last, most recent appearances was on Comedy Central’s Roast of Pamela Anderson, whom she shared a passion as an animal rights activist and was a devoted PETA member with. Arthur, in a dry, deadpan voice, read excerpts from Anderson’s book, Star: The Novel, which proved to be most memorable. She rawly read, ‘(Star asked), How do you fuck up the ass?’ and continued with the answer described in the text. She finished by saying, ‘Pam, you’ve opened up a whole new world to me,’ showing her no holds barred attitude, which had the crowd (and myself) rolling. Read the rest of this entry »
Cowabunga! In honor of the 25th anniversary of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (let’s all take a moment to feel really old) not only will the Empire State Building be lit green tonight but the Tribeca Film Fest will be showing the original TMNT movie from 1990.
Aside from New York, the Turtles will be hitting the road and visiting Philly, Chicago, St Louis, Detroit, Dallas, Denver, Phoenix, Vegas, LA and San Diego. They’ll be making different kinds of appearances in each city, so visit their anniversary site above for details.
I remember getting the videos from Burger King way back in the day and practically wearing them out. And, of course, fighting with my brother about who the coolest turtle was (he said Raphael, I liked Michaelangelo). Did anyone else play the theme song in 4th grade band? Turtle power! -Liza
