Last week, we were lucky enough to sit down with cartoonist Ellen Lindner, the artist behind the graphic novel Undertow and anthology The Strumpet. During her interview, Lindner named Alison Bechdel, who wrote the comic strip Dykes to Watch Out For, as someone she admired in the field. If you were intrigued by Lindner’s work, or are interested in finding new graphic memoirs of the type that Bechdel is famous for, check out this article on Flavorwire: “8 Worthy Successors to Alison Bechdel”.

This list of female writers may very well contain a future favorite of yours. From Nicole Georges, to Leela Corman, to Ellen Forney, the roster is impressive, varied, and brimming with talent and insight. These are not artists who shy away from complicated, difficult subject matter; on the contrary, each memoirist is generous and unblinking in her relation of struggle, success, and all the peaks and valleys in between. So check out some of the women on this list—you won’t be disappointed.
