I agree that we need more women in advertising(as well as most every other field as well). However, until the attitudes and cultural acceptance that excuses, profits and titilates from the degrading images of women in advertising, all the women as decision-makers in the ad world won't make as big of a difference as we need. If women want to be accepted with men, they are subconsciously and sometimes consciously pressured to align with the men. In an environment such as advertising, where the huge majority of C.E.O.'s and other leaders are men, it is not surprising that the few women that do make it to the "isolated lair of male occupation" take the viewpoint of their colleagues with penises. Now, I'm not saying that this phenomenon applies to all women. Or that the women who are affected should be blamed for it. On the contrary. Social influence is quite a strong force to reckon with, perhaps because so many people think they are immune from "outsider" attitudes changing how they think, act, talk, etc. Nonetheless, whatever the reason, the pressure is alive and well.
I am also not saying that all men want to see disrespectful images of women either. However as Jonathan Katz and Bryon Hurt have set forth, men are reprimanded for going outside of the "man box"-this would potentially (most likely) include taking the side of scary feminists in regards to advertisements.

watch the article comment threads for rampant antisemetism rearing its ugly head in the name of feminism. for once can't we do anything without somebody (or everybody) getting shat of for their identity, not just their behavior. ugh

kittykat--i specifically said that my problem with the ad is not about whether or not i like sex or think sex can be used in fun and funny ways in advertising. it's that this one leaves women out of the joke and makes me want to hurl to boot--so not sexy. as i said, i love blow jobs, i love burgers...where's the ad for me? it's not this one. and, being silent about things that bother me to avoid attracting attention to those things? also not for me.

"Fill your desire for something long, juicy and flame-grilled..." I have a desire I'd like to fill, BK. It involves flame-grilling your apparently short and flaccid sense of taste.

What we should find out is which ad agency this came from and say "shame on you!" And "shame on Burger King" while we are at it. Gross. Really low and gross.

Are you sure you can keep clicking? Every time I've ever heard about The Hunger Site (and all of the sister sites) I've always heard that they only count one click per day, per computer. I looked for ages, just now, on their site but couldn't get an answer.

Any way YOU could get someone over there to confirm or deny the one-click-a-day thing, Hannah?

Thanks so much for putting this link on your site! I used to click on each site every day but forgot about them since I got my internet back.
