Its easy to feel self conscious about your body sometimes. Everybody does.
When I went up to the Toronto Comics and Art Fest, I came across Every/body in my search for comics, zines, or books that focus on gender, body issues, feminism, abuse, and similar topics. This sweet comic/zine culture anthology is all about becoming comfortable in your own skin (even though the cover model doesn't have any).
The 104-page book ...

Looking to have a grand old time this despite Tropical Storm Andrea’s wrath? The Grand Comics Festival is this weekend in Brooklyn. It is at the perfect time to be at a comics festival, which is from 11 am-7pm. This is where you’ll be able to find indie comics, zines, prints, get commissions, meet cartoonists, and more. This is the first time the festival is being held, and it will be at Bird River ...

The Federal Reserve announced this week that a redesigned hundred-dollar bill is scheduled for release in October. This new bill has added anti-counterfeiting features such as a 3D security ribbon and a disappearing and reappearing image of the Liberty Bell on an inkwell. I personally love the feather quill pen and ink well, since I write and draw. I think other creative types will like that, too. I'm looking forward to ...

Robin Enrico is known for his quirky comic Jam In The Band, a story about a sassy all-girl band named Pitch Girl. He is a talented artist born from the multifaceted world of music and DIY culture. We yearn for more comics like Robin’s. Here is a recent interview with this indie cartoonist:

A photo was posted online of a scene at Swedish clothing line with two new mannequins that are a bit curvier and thicker that the mannequins we see every day. When many women saw this photo on Women's Right News's online group page they rejoiced, and hoped these models would be displayed in stores. It was rumored that the photo was taken at H&M, but a spokeswoman for the company has announced that H&M is ...

A new chapter of women’s history in the world of sports was written this past weekend. For the first time ever, a fight between two women was the main attraction at the Ultimate Fighting Championship. The fight was between bantamweight titleholder Ronda Rousey and challenger Liz Carmouche (AKA the Girlilla). These women are real Amazons; Ronda Rousey has a background in Judo and is an bona fide Olympian, while the ...

In the 70's and 80's, graffiti was extremely common in major cities like New York. As the act became increasingly associated with crime, police heightened surveillance of street art. Still, little tags can be seen almost everywhere you look, including bigger pieces that make quite an impact. While some citizens clearly aren't fans of graffiti, others are glad that these anonymous artists are being generous enough to create ...

When most people are asked, “What is your favorite superhero?” most all people choose a male superhero such as Spiderman or Batman. Rarely is the answer a female superhero, although there are many. Wonder Woman is first female superhero to come to people’s minds and is considered by many to be a feminist icon. We know that TV’s talk show host Wendy Williams feels inspired by Wonder Woman when she ...

Ellen Lindner with Strumpet 2 at Hypothetical Island
It was a cold and windy night when I went over to cartoonist Ellen Lindner’s studio, located in a building called Hypothetical Island in Brooklyn, NY. Lindner wrote and illustrated the excellent graphic novel Undertow, and edits the international all-women’s comics anthology The Strumpet. These are all books I enjoy and would recommend, for the record. ...
