May 15, 2010 marks the 40th International Fluevog Day!
Each year, Fluevog Shoes gives away teal laces and 15% off regular prices to customers at retail locations across the globe.
"I remember when we started with the teal laces in 1972. Well, actually it was just me wearing them," says designer John Fluevog. "You should have seen the people staring back then! Now, every person I see on May 15th is wearing teal laces! It's incredible!"
Everybody is getting in on the festivities. Fluevog Day is a state holiday in Rhode Island while the cities of Boise, Melbourne, and Gatineau give a paid day off to their employees. Rumors are circulating that Palm Springs is constructing a 40 foot paper mache statue of Mr. Fluevog, and that a 'Shoe Boat' will be making a trip down the Euphrates.
Of course, nobody can overshadow the designer's hometown of Vancouver. A mass of stretch limousines and a giant 'F' shaped pinata have been obstructing traffic outside the flagship store. JJ Bean Coffee, which already has a special Fluevog blend, will be donating its 5/15 proceeds to charity. In addition, the Museum of Vancouver is having a 40 year retrospective of Fluevog's work.
The company will be celebrating online with FREE SHIPPING on May 14th-15th.
At 5:15 on 5/15, you can stop by one of 10 Fluevog Shoes locations for refreshments, balloons, music, and great costumes!
And, if you find yourself in Vancouver....
