Good Vibrations, a sex shop in San Francisco, is hosting the grand opening of their Antique Vibrator Museum on Thursday, April 12. The museum will showcase a collection of vintage vibrators dating back to the 1880s (most of which look more like devices of torture rather than pleasure) to the 1970s.

Curator and Sexologist Dr. Carol Queen will host a tour of the museum and discuss the origins of vibrators (originally marketed for physicians as a way help them treat women's hysteria) and their evolution. 

Good Vibrations is also co-presenting the San Francisco premiere of "Hysteria," a romantic comedy centered on the creation of the first vibrator, on May 1. Check out the trailer below:

 

If you’re not in the San Francisco area you can visit the Good Vibrations website to view the titillating collection and see a gallery of the earliest models. Some of these devices look so clunky and unsafe it seems unwise to allow them anywhere near someone's lady business. Definitely makes you appreciate the comforts of the twenty-first century and your Magic Wand.
