The Hunger Games is officially a phenomenon. People of all ages and tastes are loving it and with such a twisted plot and kickass heroine, who can blame them? America is geeking out together and I'm loving every minute of it. Not only are the fans varied, but so is the film's fashion. From district to kooky capital, there is surprising inspiration to be had. Although most capital citizens are a silly, ignorant bunch, they do get to wear some of the most extravagantly colorful garments rarely seen in films these days. Credit is due to costume designer, Judianna Makovsk, who incorporated many high-fashion looks into The Hunger Games adaptation. Designers such as Rodarte, Alexander McQueen, and Jean Paul Gaultier were used to dress Elizabeth Banks as Effie Trinket and I'm totally getting some Isabella Blow vibes from her. There's even a site called Capitol Couture.
Check out some of the film's fashion below, along with tutorials and a few of my favorite etsy finds.
"May the odds be ever in your favor!"
Katniss and Peeta
"The girl on fire!"
For beauty tips, here are a few tutorials for fiery nails, simple makeup, and the classic Katniss braid.
When it comes to fashion you can buy, etsy is full of it. Here are a few of my favorites:
When I finally saw the film, I wanted to dress in theme. Considering it was the middle of the day, I wanted to be kind of subtle. I went "district style," inspired by the pretty blue dress that Katniss wore to the reaping. I added a touch of red inspired by her "girl on fire" looks and, in terms of hair, ended up a bit more more swiss miss than Katnisss, but I still think the braids worked with the inspiration.
How about you guys? Did you dress in theme or wear anything special when you saw the film? I'd so, I'd love to see! You can leave me a link in the comments. Extra points if you went all out Effie style.
