boxing 2 While I bob-and-weave on the regular in New York City foot traffic, there are some fools I'd like to knock around physically (hell-o, slow-ass who made everyone miss the train!) I got to test the new Don King Boxing game for Nintendo Wii and immediately put it on my bday wishlist after, because I know it works. Instead of doing the 'scream into your pillow to get your anger out' bit (I mean, really, who does that!?), I was really able to work some steam off via the physical use of my body while gaming.

The 3-D game, which involves use of both hand controllers and the Wii balance board, works both the upper and lower body. They are effective in jabbing, punching and dodging your opponent. The Wii balance board (unfortunately!) weighs who's playing, so that you could check your weight and gauge your progress each time you play. I went through actual training like a boxer goes through, from the overhead punching bag to the body punching bag, and even a bit of step aerobics combined with throwing jabs, to get the heart pumping. Pretty friggin' cool, considering it's a video game.

Another cool thing (and something Wii is known for) are the vibrations and sensations you get from your handheld controllers (no, not that kind, you perv) when you punch or get punched. It prompts you to become physical back, instead of just workin' out your thumbs (again, not like that) like those traditional games do.

You also get to choose who will do the ass-kicking out of over 20 real licensed boxers and the venue where this ass-kicking will commence. You can either challenge the game itself or challenge someone else (such as, that one chick?) to a friendly game of 'I'mma kick yo virtual ass!' (I just wish I could pick a woman to do the ass-kicking!)

boxing 1And you know how video games generally are all about winning by way of getting a high score? Well the 'fitness points' you gain are actually calories burned, which ultimately will be 'pounds lost.' The game also keeps track of this as part of your progress.

Thanks to the Ninendo Wii system, gamers relinquish their living room couches to standing upright and move, breaking a sweat; people are active in their gaming and are actually losing weight instead of gaining it. I ain't gonna lie. I was sore the next day. --Regina
