Alexis Krauss, frontwoman for of-the-moment rockers Sleigh Bells, compiled some of her top musical picks for our April/May issue. Below are the tunes that make her tick.
‚ÄúGenesis‚ÄĚ by Grimes
‚ÄúShe‚Äôs already released two records, and I loved ‚ÄėOblivion,‚Äô the first single she put out, but I‚Äôm really into ‚ÄėGenesis.‚Äô I‚Äôve been listening to it pretty obsessively.‚ÄĚ
‚Äú212‚ÄĚ by Azealia Banks
‚ÄúThis is probably my song of the year, as far as being like, ‚ÄėOh shit, I need to listen to that 20 more times, right now.‚Äô I‚Äôm definitely looking forward to her record.‚ÄĚ
‚ÄúCoast to Coast‚ÄĚ by Elliott Smith
‚Äú‚ÄėCoast to Coast‚Äô is an insanely dramatic, haunting song from his last record, From a Basement on a Hill. Knowing what happened shortly after he recorded this makes it that much more intense.‚ÄĚ
‚ÄúLove Hurts‚ÄĚ by the Everly Brothers
‚ÄúNow I‚Äôm going way back. I‚Äôm obsessed with the Everly Brothers because they do so much with so little. They make every note and melody line and harmony line count. I hope one day to be as awesome as them.‚ÄĚ
‚ÄúI Hate Myself for Loving You‚ÄĚ by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts
‚ÄúThis song is so immediate; it really pumps you up. It has so much attitude. It makes you wanna take over the world.‚ÄĚ
