I tried to fight it, and I tried to deny it, but I can't. I love Tavi Gevinson (Maybe you've heard of her? She was on the cover of some magazine called BUST) . Even more than Tavi, I luuuurve Rookie, which is why I was sure to preorder Rookie Yearbook One. For those of you who don't know (shame on you!), Rookie was founded a year ago today by Ms. Gevinson to give teen girls content that they weren't being given in, say, Seventeen or Teen ... Read More

Martha Plimpton Wants You!

Posted by: Intern Michelle in Feminizzle |

Just when you thought Martha Plimpton couldn't get any cooler, she up and does just that. Last night she announced on Twitter that she had  released a video for the  women's rights group she recently launched, A is For. In it, she explains the why she started the org--which is basically that things kinda suck for women here and around the world, and they are getting sucker. Plimpton wants to help make things better, and her Org ... Read More

There are a few things that always put a bad taste in my mouth: black licorice, cinnamon gum, and hearing women talk about other women's bodies. I'm not sitting high enough on my horse to claim that I've never been guilty of it. Still, it's something I try to be aware of. The only body I live in is my own, and it's the only one I have any business being concerned with. I feel pretty passionately about this, which is why I physically ... Read More

We’ve been a fan of Emma Watson since the very first Harry Potter, and have been more-than-happy to see what an eloquent and thoughtful woman she has grown up to be. Her recent quotes about body image in Glamour only reiterate that fact. Watson spoke candidly about the body issues she had growing up, saying, “I’ve accepted my body shape more as I’ve gotten older. I went through a stage of wanting to have that straight up-and-down ... Read More

Technically I am not the target audience for the “Smart Girls” YouTube series since I'm technically all grown up (Whaaat? When did that happen? Are you sure? Is this forever? It just keeps happening?). Still, not being in middle or high school has not stopped me from becoming a big fan of Smart Girls. Amy Poehler's  most recent video, part of the “Ask Amy” subsection of “Smart Girls,” tackles ... Read More

Retail giant Urban Outfitters is under fire (again) for shirts that glorify drinking. Let’s ignore the fact that: 1. These shirts are dumb, and 2. These shirts are stupid, and also 3. These shirts are not clever, and pay attention to the fact that the majority of Urban Outfitters shoppers are 18-24. Ruh-oh. Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) have responded to the shirts, claiming that they are not acceptable for children under the age ... Read More

On a scale of one to obsessed, my love for the friendship that Amy Poehler and Tina Fey share would be labeled as “straight up obsessed.” So, you can only imagine my excitement when Vulture released this vintage picture of the two ladies hugging it out circa nineteen-ninety-something. According to Conan writer Brian Stack (via Vulture), it was taken at Lake Michigan in Chicago when the two did improv with Second City. There ... Read More

I don’t even own a TV, so it’s not really difficult for me to avoid 16 and Pregnant. However, even if my apartment was filled wall-to-wall with televisions (which would be a  pretty weird decorating choice, but whatever), I’d probably avoid the hit MTV reality show. Admittedly, I have seen a few episodes, but I always find the show pretty tragic. When I do watch TV, I prefer something a bit more lighthearted, ... Read More

Flight of the Conchords is one of our all-time favorite television shows, so you can imagine how heartbroken we were when Jermaine Clement and Bret McKenzie never came back to HBO for a third season. This new song from the duo, created to help the New Zealand charity, Cure Kids, makes the pain a little  easier. Clement and McKenzie reunited to ask kids how they should write a song for charity. The guys are as hilarious as ... Read More

I honestly think The Baby-Sitters Club movie is one of the greatest films of all time. You may laugh, but consider the following points: The soundtrack (which I own and listen to regularly) is brilliant. The fact that there are people out there who haven’t heard Girl (Girlfriend) kinda breaks my heart. The “villain” of the film is named Cokie Mason, which is just the right level of ridiculous to be perfect. The scene ... Read More
