Christmas is Emily Beanblossom, Dave Halegua, Jake Jones, and Patrick Michael-Scott Walsh. They live in Olympia, Washington and both look and sound like they could beat the shit out of you. I like that in a band.
On March 15th they're releasing their first full-length self-titled album on Highfives and Handshakes/CMRTYZ and I'm obsessed with it. I've been telling people that it sounds like what Sleigh Bells SHOULD have sounded like (Beanblossom gives 'ol Alexis Krauss an aspirin from her purse and tells her to sit for a spell) but now I'd like to revise that and say that Christmas sounds like a group of kids who went through reform school together, decided to take up surfing as a hobby one summer, and when it didn't stick, formed a band instead.
"Pies" opens up with screaming and then melts into bass that's as slick and smooth as a one-handed bra removal. "Dog Problems" is a showcase for Jake Jones on drums, crisp, yet epileptic - and all the while, Beanblossom seduces and shuns, approaches and flees, singing "take my hand, you'll never be sorry." Are you up for the challenge?
