The recent onslaught of attacks on women’s reproductive rights has been depressing, to say the very least. Lisa Edelstein, star of “House”, has fought back by starring in a “coat hanger” abortion ad. The ad made by MoveOn.org features Edelstein in 50’s garb as she narrates, “Decades ago, women suffered through horrifying back alley abortions. Or, they used dangerous methods when they had no other recourse. So when the Republican Party launched an all out assault on women's health, pushing bills to limit access to vital services, why is the GOP trying to send women back ... to the back alley?" The ad closes with Edelstein reaching into her closet for a coat hanger. Many women are sincerely wondering what is going to happen to their reproductive rights, and scared about the prospect of moving backward, having their rights slowly stripped from them. This ad is a harrowing reminder of what women in the U.S. had to face not too long ago, and what under-privileged women everywhere are still facing.
