In celebration of Madonna's big birthday, BB King is having its eighth annual Madonnathon, a live performance/dance party for the living legend. Every girl has been influenced by Madonna in some way or another. She's affected every generation everytime she puts out a new album or reinvents herself. Who doesn't partly identify the '80s with 'Like A Virgin' and those fingerless lace gloves and that wedding dress?
As for my most defining Madonna moment, it would have to be the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards, where Madonna shared a smooch with both Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera, which scandalized the nation (and my young, impressionable self) and was media fodder for weeks afterward. But watching it again, I doubt it would make a blip in today's radar, considering all the oversexed goings-on with celebrities that happens nowadays. It is, however, still a very entertaining and badass performance. Especially when Madonna struts down the steps in a groom's tuxedo.
It all goes down this Sunday, August 16th at the BB King Blues Club in Times Square. The likes of Felicia Collins from the David Letterman Band and Tammy Faye Starlite will perform some of Madonna's classics, backed by the Material Boys. It costs $15 advance and $18 on the day of the show. You can find out more deets about the event here. -Sylvie
