I’m not sure how many of you had the unfortunate experience of being shipped off to camp for a few weeks out of the summer, but for me the trauma lingers on like the scent of insect repellent and sweat after a half dozen games of Capture the Flag. Mom and Dad may have partied it up while you spent your formidable years making birdfeeders out of peanut butter and pinecones, and coaxing fellow campers into eating mysterious red berries, but now it’s your turn for a sweet retreat from all grown-up responsibilities.

Celeste Mc Entee of Celestial Cupcakes in Newport, OR is orchestrating the Oregon Coast Cake & Cupcake Camp this October. Bakers and sweet-lovers unite to raise money for the Donate Life Northwest organ donor program, and share their passion for bake goods. Camp activities include baking classes, cupcake-eating contests, raffles, bake-offs and more.

The camp will be held October 1st and 2nd at Newport’s Hallmark Hotel and will be open to the public that Saturday from 1:00 to 4:00 PM. Register for classes, make a donation or find out more at the event’s website oregoncoastcakecupcake.webs.com. I’m sure you’ll have no trouble coaxing your friends into eating a cupcake, even if it is red and mysterious.
