SXSW Style

BY Sara Graham in Style File |

There was so much hot fashion at SXSW this year. I had to take some shots of musicians, show-goers and generally inspiring ladies and dudes around town. It was a perfect storm for great outfits: sunny days, cool nights, and a music festival where anything goes. Continue reading to see more sassy styles! (Aja from Nico Vega )  (Tuxedo man)   (Dead Milkmen!)   (Peggy from Pains of Being Pure at Heart ... Read More
I'm back on the cold, hard east coast now, and write about my last day in Austin with a bit of sadness over leaving SXSW! Yesterday was a great day at the Mess With Texas party, a show with over 10 bands in Waterloo Park on two outdoor stages. I wanted to catch up on sleep and stay out of the sun, after three days of it, I was starting to feel a bit nuts. So, I headed to the park in the early evening and first caught poppy garage rockers,  The Thermals ... Read More
Friday, Day 3 of SXSW was exhausting, but super fun. I was out, trolling around Austin from 1 in the afternoon until 2 at night. My feet were just straight red when I got home. I started my day intending to catch Handsome Furs at the Insound Party at Club Deville, and totally missed it because it was so tough to get a cab downtown. Bummer. But, I caught School of Seven Bells at Emo's Jr.. They drew a surisingly loyal crowd, and their effortless pop-psych ... Read More

SXSW: Day 2 Recap!

BY Sara Graham in Music Stuff |

Since there is an overwhelming amount of things to see, do and hear at SX, I have been hard-pressed to get to a computer and keep our readers abreast of what's ... Read More
BUST was in full effect at Bird's Barbershop yesterday, a cute little salon-cum-venue that offered $15 mohawks, free Dewer's drinks, water and beer, and a line-up great indie bands and DJs. This was our freebie/merch table and we met tons of cool guys and girls who wanted to check us out!     Even Khan (below) from King Khan and the Shrines was digging BUST and I'm pretty sure LA-based MC, Busdriver, who got the line-up started told the crowd he ... So, Austin is nuts. Not only is SXSW music madness perfectly suited to this a very cool, weird, and musical city, it was a breezy 75 degrees, just delightful for wandering venue to venue to sample BBQ, beer, and bands. Totally a way I can happily spend my day. It's predictably hard to get into good, free shows, because of lines and crowds. After getting my bearings on the venue-packed main drag, 6th street, I was bummed to see an epic line for the Paste Magazine ... Read More
BUST has landed in the middle of SXSW! After departing from Philadelphia  at 6:30 am, and with a two hour delay in Houston, we have finally arrived in Austin! Needless to say, Southwest Airlines was not flying the friendliest  skies today, but all is well, and both yours truly, BUST's Associate Music Editor, and Marketing gal Susan Juvet, are here and ready to fill you in on our rock 'n roll cowgirl adventures.    In true SXSW fashion, I'm ... Love Montreal

BY Sara Graham in Music Stuff |

Judging by last night's show at Brooklyn's Williamsburg Music Hall, of Montreal have totally made it. Seeing them a few times over the years, their fan base always seemed loyal but obscure to me. Last night it seemed their popularity was almost cult-like. I mean, 16-year-old boys were in drag to celebrate the art queer vibe of their newest album! It was nuts!Deliciously androgynous frontman, Kevin Barnes took it all the way and back again with costume changes ... Read More
