Beyoncé Knowles, Salma Hayek, and Gucci Creative Director Frida Giannini are taking over the world with their new global campaign Chime For Change, tackling female empowerment and telling the world that women are a force to be reckoned with.
Launched at the TEDxWomen luncheon in California yesterday, the organization focuses on three factors of female empowerment: education, health, and justice. The Chime For Change Manifesto poetically and powerfully outlines the organization’s message, calling for people everywhere to join together and turn their attention to issues that women face around the world.
As co-founder Frida Giannini states “I think it is essential for girls and women to see and celebrate what is possible. I hope that through Chime we can help the voices calling for change to become so loud that they cannot be ignored.”
The project features ten short films, which are narrated by Hayek and set to new music by Beyoncé, that show viewers stories of inspirational women around the world. Enlisting the help of leading organizations and companies, Chime For Change is already seeking ways to strengthen their campaign in order to truly affect real change in the lives of girls and women around the world. Facebook, The Huffington Post, and Hearst Magazines have already signed on and joined the cause, and Hayek’s husband’s multinational company PPR is slated to join as well. In addition, celebrities including Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, and Jada Pinkett Smith have also signed on to the project.
Through its partnership with Catapult – a program that focuses on advancing women’s lives and conditions – people are able to connect through Chime For Change with organizations and projects where they are then able to donate money and fund the issues that are most important to them.
