ST. PAUL, MN -- Red House Records presents two special New York City performances of Our Side of Town: A 25th Anniversary Concert with Lucy Kaplansky, Eliza Gilkyson and Cliff Eberhardt at Joe’s Pub (425 Lafayette St., New York) on Thursday, July 24th at 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Featuring some of the most respected songwriters on today’s folk/roots scene, their performance together will be a rare concert event. Tickets for each show are just $30 in advance and are on sale now. For tickets and more info, contact Joe’s Pub at (212) 967-7555 or http://www.joespub.com. Called “a truly gifted performer” by The New Yorker, Lucy Kaplansky returns to Joe’s Pub for this special silver anniversary celebration. She got her start in New York City, when she was in a duo with Shawn Colvin but since then has made her own mark, winning countless awards and releasing Red House’s best selling album of all time--Ten Year Night. Lucy’s latest album Over the Hills features stunning originals and compelling covers of classics by June Carter Cash and Loudon Wainwright III. She has contributed her unique crystalline vocals to many Red House projects over the years and has recorded and toured with a who’s who of acoustic musicians, including Nanci Griffith, Dar Williams, Richard Shindell, Jonatha Brooke, Buddy Miller, and label-mates John Gorka and Eliza Gilkyson. Also possessing a unique voice, Eliza Gilkyson has been called “one of the most influential artists on the American folk music scene” (Maverick). The Grammy-nominated songwriter is a member of the Austin Music Hall of Fame and has appeared on NPR, Austin City Limits, Mountain Stage, etown and Air America Radio. Politically minded and poetically gifted, Eliza has won 3 Austin Music Awards and 4 Folk Alliance Music Awards. She will be touring to support her album Beautiful World, which will be released on May 27th. Already topping folk and Americana radio charts, the CD mixes Americana, rock, jazz and folk styles and has been called “musically adventurous” by the Austin Chronicle. Another musical maverick, Cliff Eberhardt received great attention for his 2007 release The High Above and the Down Below, which showcased his heavy jazz and pop influences. Landing somewhere Randy Newman and Tom Waits, this classic-sounding album was named the #5 album of 2007 by USA Today. Called “one of contemporary folk’s greatest songwriters,” Cliff’s long and illustrious career started in New York City, where he first met Red House artists John Gorka and Lucy Kaplansky. Excited to reunite with these old friends, Cliff will share the stage with Lucy Kaplansky and Eliza Gilkyson for a special once-in-a-lifetime celebration of their label home Red House Records. These two shows at Joe’s Pub will be the only New York area stop on the Our Side of Town 25th Anniversary Tour and are not to be missed. In conjunction with Red House’s yearlong celebration, the Grammy-winning label just released a special new CD called Our Side of Town: A Red House Records 25th Year Collection, which will be available for sale at the July 24th event. It is an album of songs that show the colorful landscape of the place that is home to today’s finest acoustic artists—Lucy Kaplansky, Eliza Gilkyson, Cliff Eberhardt, Jorma Kaukonen, The Wailin’ Jennys, John Gorka, Robin & Linda Williams, Guy Davis, Storyhill, Ray Bonneville, Greg Brown, Jimmy LaFave, Lynn Miles, The Pines, Peter Ostroushko, Bill Staines and Meg Hutchinson, the latest addition to the Red House roster. A finely woven collection of some of the staff’s favorite recent performances, it is a perfect snapshot of the label in its 25th year. |
