Lower East Side, NY (August 2008) – Fashion Week comes early with the L.E.S. Fashion Flipside. In true L.E.S. form the Lower East Side Business Improvement District on August 17th at 2pm is turning Orchard and Rivington streets into a haute runway that, similar to the neighborhood, will be the best fashion bargain in town.
In its 6th year L.E.S. Fashion Flipside has returned from a two year sabbatical and is Going Green focusing on eco-friendly and vintage clothing. “The L.E.S. B.I.D. is working to help make our neighborhood more eco-friendly in a variety of ways through the city’s initiative Go Green Lower East Side. With so many eco-friendly and vintage stores in the area we thought it would be a perfect fit to show people how to shop and shrink their unique fashion footprint at the same time,†explains Roberto Ragone, Executive Director of the Lower East Side Business Improvement District.
The runway show will consist of numerous brands including David Owen’s Vintage, Kaight, Lolli By Reincarnation, Hairy Mary’s Vintage, Moo Shoes and fetish apparel from Demask.
Eco chic is not the only forms of fashion making an appearance. New Yorkers can see fashions from centennial stores like Orchard Corset, Zarin’s Fabrics and Harris Levy alongside cutting edge menswear from 20 Peacocks and Ted’s Formal Wear. Outrageous one of a kind design from Apollo Braun and House De Lux’s Free Your Ass jean collection along with Valley will also be on display. And for the first time walking the runway a compilation of the best and brightest up and coming L.E.S. designers from The Dressing Room collective.
“The Lower East Side is where trends are born and cultures meet. Fashionista’s will be able to witness a convergence of the classic and contemporary, the vintage and vogue, all in true Lower East Side form, pickles and pumps,†Says Noelle Frieson, Marketing Director of the Lower East Side Business Improvement District. “The best part about it is that unlike the secretive tents of Fashion Week, everyone can come out and experience this collection of Lower East Side haute fashion.â€
Sponsored by Metro NY, L.E.S. Fashion Flipside is taking it one step further and adding an interactive beauty lounge with free eyebrow threading, beauty consultations by Make-up Mania, fashion consultations, free massages and complimentary beverages by Fizzy Lizzy. Not to mention an array of Orchard Street merchants bringing their threads to the street.
