i ME wed is an upbeat, positive and poignant project where single women get married … to themselves! An open call for independent single women over the age of 27* was made and those brides have shared their vows with us. And now we share them with you in this multi-screen video installation and interactive experience. Upon entry into this space, spectators become guests and are directed to take their seat to witness the exchanges of vows projected before them in this ceremony-inspired environment. Complete with an on-site wedding booth where you can marry yourself on-the-spot and a reception with cake, music and celebration, I ME wed provides a space for women to play with commonplace stigmas of singledom, to reclaim identity and to ultimately bring women together to share stories of self-reflection on what makes them loved – by themselves… And it’s a way for us to tell our nagging relatives that yes…we’re getting married so put a lid on it already! Find us online at http://imewed.wordpress.com Check out Nuit Blanche at http://www.scotiabanknuitblanche.ca/home.shtml *According to the UN World Marriage Patterns 2000 report, the average age of marriage for women in Canada is 27.4 years. i Me wed is presented by Joanne Loton and Sadia Mir. The Nuit Blanche event is in partnership with Peridot Resto-Lounge and Wedding by Wave. Location: Peridot Resto-Lounge (Zone A, Bloor Yorkville) 81 Bloor Street East Toronto, ON Saturday, October 4, 2008 at 6:50pm - Sunday, October 5, 2008 at 3:00am
