With opportunities for holiday revelry abounding, the Holiday Handmade Cavalcade offers New Yorkers a unique opportunity to mingle with local artists and crafters while hunting for one-of-a-kind gifts. Organized by The {NewNew}, a group of New York–area sellers from Etsy.com—the online marketplace for handmade goods—this DIY affair is set to take place at the Knitting Factory from 10am to 5pm on Saturday, December 6. It will be one of the final events before the legendary rock club closes its Manhattan location.
A spunky newcomer to the indie shopping scene, the Holiday Handmade Cavalcade claims a simple mission: to invite people to rediscover the pleasure of giving the gift of something handmade. The one-day event will showcase more than 30 locally-grown purveyors of handmade goods. Shoppers looking to support local craft can fill up their holiday stockings by perusing three floors of jewelry and accessories, clothing, housewares, ceramics, paper goods, handcrafted soaps and bath products, and original artwork. The first 200 shoppers who RSVP for the event at www.handmadecavalcade.com will receive a complimentary goody bag on the day of the event. Shoppers who arrive before noon will receive exclusive coupons for discounts at and after the event, and everyone who attends will have the opportunity to enter into a free raffle to win creations from participating vendors.
"We see this as a chance for shoppers to find the perfect gift for everyone on their list in a relaxing atmosphere while sipping one of several holiday-themed cocktails and enjoying some music," says Kristen Couse, who is heading up the event.
Sponsored by the L Magazine, Lion Brand Yarn, and YELP.
