Woman’s Will, an all-female theatre company founded in 1998, presents Playfest 2010 at The Buriel Clay Theater, 762 Fulton Street in San Francisco. 

Led by artistic director Victoria Evans-Erville, the company held a playwriting competition this winter for female writers in California who were asked to tackle the theme of a woman’s strength.   Six winning short plays will be presented in a fully staged, one night only, performance on April 24 at 8pm.

The wide-ranging selections are:

One Is For Letters by Playwrights Foundation resident Erin Bregman, a June Ann Baker Prize winner and Princess Grace award finalist.  She has been a Jerome fellow and her work has been commissioned by the Magic Theatre.

Cosmetic Counter and NightMares by award winning actor and playwright Marilyn Hughes; Cosmetic Counter won the SF Playwrights Foundation’s DramaRama short play festival and was the first place winner of the Marin Fringe Festival.

Though They May Be Parted by Patricia Milton, president of Playwrights Foundation in SF; her plays have been performed in SF and NYC and many US cities in between.

Jewish Roots by emmy nominated Ellen Sandler, who has written for many prime time network television shows and created original television pilots in the USand internationally.  Jewish Roots was previously produced in LA starring Fran Drescher.

Homeostasis, by Lauren Yee, who has been honored with numerous fellowships including one from The Dramatists Guild.  A finalist for many prestigious writing awards, Ms. Yee won the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival Paula Vogel award.  Her various commissions include Yale’s O’Neill Studio and last year she was a member of the 2009 Public Theater emerging playwrights group in NYC.

This year’s directors are Amy Crumpacker, Victoria Evans-Erville, Lisa Giglio and Kate Jopson.

The engaging event will include food and drink; after the performance there will be a festive silent auction to benefit the company’s summer season.
