Wednesday September 1st at 2 PM
93.5 FM WNYC's Soundcheck
On-Air Performance Interview
Tune in at 93.5 FM, 920 AM or online at www.wnyc.org
Sequestered beneath Rupa’s infectious and captivating melodies are thought-provoking themes that address life, love, art, death and the real and artificial divisions that keep us apart. The San Francisco based musical agitators are specialists in crossing borders and building bridges and they effortlessly blur the boundaries of genre and geography to create a sound Time Out has called, "global agit-pop".

As a practicing doctor, lead singer Rupa is particularly passionate about the human impact of US anti-immigration policies and how it affects immigrants’ (documented and undocumented) ability to seek public health care. Over the past several years, she has met countless patients who sought medical attention late in their disease process for fear of deportation.

Known for their multilayered sound drawing from many traditions, Rupa The April Fishes, have played major venues and festival stages in North America and Europe including the Montreal Jazz Festival, Central Park Summer Stage, OutsideLands, Joshua Tree, WOMAD and dozens more.
