Date: Wednesday, June 06, 2012 At 10:00 AM
Duration: 1 Hour 30 Minutes

Almost a year ago, the women of Yemassee packed their bags and left town, leaving the men and children to fend for themselves for a week.

Television cameras captured it all.

In June, the social experiment "The Week the Women Went" will debut on the Lifetime channel, revealing to the nation and the participants what really happened when 100 women abandoned their lives and responsibilities -- and men picked up the slack.

"We're really excited," said Yemassee Revitalization Commission board president Paula Flowers, who was involved in bringing the show to the town. "I think they've painted a really positive view. They said everybody is going to want to live in Yemassee after they see the show."

Men took care of children, all the businesses, homes and local activities, while the women were taken to an undisclosed location, she said.

Yemassee was chosen out of about 100 towns considered for the show, which is produced by BBC Productions. The show started in 2005 and has featured towns across the world, including in Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, India and Morocco, according to a news release.
