On Saturday, April 27 from 12 to 7pm the Center for Strategic Art and Agriculture, CSAA, is proud to present F.O.R.T., Farm Organize Renew Transform, a sculptural organic garden by artists/agriculturalists Jason Gaspar and Ben Garthus. Built from repurposed material, F.O.R.T. encompasses community action, participatory art, and a bit of psychogeography. In addition to growing organic fruits, vegetables, and flowers, the garden is an immersive environment where visitors move, crawl, and ascend through the tiered structure, allowing them to interact with the plants, the garden and each other. The opening of F.OR.T. will be an all day event of music, art, sound art, and food. Bands include the Columbian Cumbia dance band collective, Cumbiagra, slide guitar virtuoso Marc Orleans, and infamous member of the No-Neck Blues Band, D. Charles Speer. Sound artists include Eli Lehrhoff, Patrick Sampson, Ryan Soper, Annegret Falkner, Megan Moncreif, Daniel Fishkin, Roy Styles, Nathan Cearley, and Mark Dwinell. Food will be prepared by I Love Food, a collective catering company. Admission is $10.00 at the door. Located within the DIY art center Silent Barn at 603 Bushwick Ave in Bushwick, Brooklyn, CSAA is a non-profit guided by the belief that art and urban agriculture have the profound ability to transform the spaces we inhabit into sites of creativity, empowerment, and community. By presenting these two powerful modes of reimagining entwined and in concert, CSAA creates a unique and inclusive platform for social progress through artistic expression.
