Miami-Equal-Opportunity Provocadora Dinorah De Jesus Premieres New-Public Intervention Art (8:00 AM - 10:00 AM)
mujer_cita_MIA CONFRONTS ISSUES OF CONCERN TO WOMEN EQUAL-OPPORTUNITY PROVOCADORA DINORAH DE JESUS RODRIGUEZ PREMIERES NEW PUBLIC-INTERVENTION ART APRIL 18-20 Miami On Stage 2013 Showcase "The Ladies’ Room is that ironic place of utmost privacy in public," says artist Dinorah de Jesús Rodriguez, about the location of her public-intervention video art installation mujer_cita_MIA. It premieres April 18-20 in the common areas of Miami-Dade County Auditorium (including the women's restroom). This will be the first of her series of public installations tackling issues of concern to women, presented during FUNDarte's Miami On Stage weekend of orignal music and art by Miami-based artists. "The women's restroom is a place where fleeting moments occur between random strangers. We wash our hands and apply lipstick in a mirror together and wish each other a nice day - after having just taken care of our other, more delicate personal matters," says Dinorah. "Imagine if, as we do this, we are surprised by the presence of a unique video-art piece on the wall. Then this unexpected work provokes us with images about issues we are discussing through social media, among friends in private and public places, and quite possibly, in the Ladies’ Room itself. Imagine if this unexpected provocation reminds us of our strength as women, of the difficulties we face daily, and our power to continuously evolve."

Brokechella: Los Angeles (All Day)
A music fest for the rest of us: Brokechella returns with its 3rd edition in the heart of DTLA to once again serve all of those who don't have the dough for a weekend in the desert. Don't miss what the LA Times recognized as the community experience that skips "the mortal terror of your credit card statement [at other festivals]" and "revels in staying at home." Doubling in size year to year, Brokechella 2013 is sure to yet again swarm with a giant crowd, the best of acts from LA and beyond, mouth-watering eats and surprises galore. Last year's Main Stage featured Infantree, LA Font, Rumspringa, Big Moves and yOya, among others. Inside, bands played all day to packed crowds, while DJs led an army of dance fiends at the Jarritos stage outside. Come be a part of the oh-so-cheap magic, all happening on 4/20/13.

WHAT'S A ZINE?
A zine (pronounced "zeen") is a self-published magazine, often small in circulation, almost always focusing on a topic or viewpoint not covered elsewhere. Created by writers, artists, comedians, researchers, amateurs, and professionals of all kinds, zines can be personal or collaborative, sleek or cut-and-paste, color or black-and-white. If you've got an interest in something, chances are there's a zine about it; and with the best zines from New York City and beyond, you'll be able to find it at the Brooklyn Zine Fest!
----------------------------
Map of Public Assembly:
The full list of BZF 2013 Exhibitors is now up! See blurbs and links for the 80+ writers, artists, publishers, and distros you'll be able to meet at Public Assembly on Sunday, April 21st, 2013 via the 2013 Exhibitors tab.
Many of these folks (including the organizers) will have brand new projects debuting in April, so poke around at their sites and get excited to say hello!

Built from repurposed material, F.O.R.T. encompasses community action, participatory art, and a bit of psychogeography. In addition to growing organic fruits, vegetables, and flowers, the garden is an immersive environment where visitors move, crawl, and ascend through the tiered structure, allowing them to interact with the plants, the garden and each other.
The opening of F.OR.T. will be an all day event of music, art, sound art, and food. Bands include the Columbian Cumbia dance band collective, Cumbiagra, slide guitar virtuoso Marc Orleans, and infamous member of the No-Neck Blues Band, D. Charles Speer. Sound artists include Eli Lehrhoff, Patrick Sampson, Ryan Soper, Annegret Falkner, Megan Moncreif, Daniel Fishkin, Roy Styles, Nathan Cearley, and Mark Dwinell. Food will be prepared by I Love Food, a collective catering company. Admission is $10.00 at the door.
Located within the DIY art center Silent Barn at 603 Bushwick Ave in Bushwick, Brooklyn, CSAA is a non-profit guided by the belief that art and urban agriculture have the profound ability to transform the spaces we inhabit into sites of creativity, empowerment, and community. By presenting these two powerful modes of reimagining entwined and in concert, CSAA creates a unique and inclusive platform for social progress through artistic expression.
