Born to be bad. New Runaways Movie???
So I was listening to my favorite radio station this weekend, WFMU.ORG, and Michael Shelly had a fascinating interview with the notoriously crochety Kim Fowley. You can download the archive here, its pretty awesome. Anyway, Mr. Fowley, who was a prolific writer and producer from the 60’s onward (he produced everybody, from Kiss to Jonahtan Richman, Blue Oyster Cult, Alice Cooper and the Plastic Ono Band–but is perhaps most famous for being instrumental in forming and torturing the 16 year old all girl punk band The Runaways) let loose a little tidbit that almost had me driving off the road in an effort to get my radio dial clear. He mentioned that they are making a new movie about the Runaways! (not the very informative doc Edgeplay that came out a few years back). So I got to thinking who would play Joan Jett, Sandy West, Cherie Currie, Lita Ford,Jackie Fox, and Vicki Blue? I was thinking Ellen Page could probably pull off a decent Joan, and my good friend Michael suggested Alsion Lohman could play Cheri. Lindsay Lohan as Lita Ford? Maybe… who would you cast?
i think olivia thirby could pull off a deccent joan. but i would hope that lindsay lohan wouldn’t go anywhere near the film… it would be interesting if they casted girl musicians to be in the movie. like the lead singer from be your own pet. she’d be a great joan. or somehow work beth ditto in, that’d be all kinds of wonderful.
yes, great suggestions. jemina could do a wicked cheri, but I bet she would not want to be dressed in that ridiculous rocky horror teddy outfit!
Um, I *LOVE* Ellen Page as Joan…heck she looks exactly like her!? Have to agree with Caroline on the Lindsey L. (just stay out of it please, Big Hollywood?) and as for the rest of the gals, again Caroline nails it…they should be ACTUAL MUSICIANS. (That said, I won’t hold my breath.) P.S. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE ~ DO NOT stick me with Miley Cyrus in any shape, form or capacity, her dad follows her around and creeps out me and my hippies!)
