When we were four, a “hard” question went something along the lines of, “Do you want the crusts to stay on, or do you want them cut off?” When Chelsea Clinton was four, the questions she faced were more of the “Do you want to grow up and run for senate one day?” variety. It’s no wonder she began answering these questions with a plain and simple “no” quite early on. But, just as how our opinions on PB&J crusts have evolved (We used to cut ‘em off, but now we feel they give the sandwich a more complex texture, you know?), Clinton’s opinion on running for office has evolved, as well.

In the September issue of Vogue, Clinton spoke about her shifting stance on the issue, explaining that she believes “part of helping to build a better world is ensuring that we have political leaders who are committed to that premise." She went on to explain that if there came a point in here life in which she felt there was no one who was more “sufficiently committed to building a healthier, more just, more equitable, more productive world,” she would consider running for office. So, does this mean we should order our Chelsea Clinton For Senator buttons? Well, no, not exactly. But her “maybe” is certainly an exciting change from the simple “no” she used to give.

No matter what Clinton ultimately decides to do with her career, it’s clear she is a politically active citizen, something we always give our stamp of approval. She told the magazine, "I have voted in every election that I have been qualified to vote in since I turned eighteen. I believe that engaging in the political process is part of being a good person.” She went on to explain that, after years of living an a very private life, she is now aiming towards a "purposefully public life."
