What is the BUST Magazine Craftacular?

The BUST Magazine Craftacular is NYC’s best-attended indie craft fair. From knitwear and jewelry to home décor and specialty foods, the BUST Craftacular is the one-stop shop for the very best in handmade gifts and wares. This is the fourth year that the World Maker Faire will host the BUST Magazine Craftacular at their New York event.

 

What is World Maker Faire?

World Maker Faire is a newfangled outdoor fair that brings together science, art, craft, engineering, and music in a fun, energized, and exciting public forum. The family-friendly event showcases the amazing work of all kinds of makers and celebrates the DIY spirit! For more information about World Maker Faire New York, visitmakerfaire.com.


When and where does World Maker Faire New York take place?

World Maker Faire New York will take place over two days: Saturday, September 21st and Sunday, September 22nd. The fair is located at the New York Hall of Science (47-01 111th Street) in Flushing Meadows, Corona Park, Queens, New York. For detailed directions, visitmakerfaire.com.

 

Do I need to purchase a World Maker Faire ticket to visit the BUST Magazine Craftacular?

Yes. Since this BUST Craftacular is part of the World Maker Faire, attendees will need to purchase a World Maker Faire ticket in order to attend the Craftacular. Tickets will be available for purchase starting June 19th.


How do I apply to be a vendor?

How will vendors be determined?

Due to significant space limitations, vendors will be selected on the basis of quality and uniqueness of wares, as well as to bring together a broad variety of products.

What kind of vendors do you accept?

We’re looking for any and all edible/wearable/loveable handmade goods you've got. They include but are not limited to specialty foods, silk-screened items, cosmetics, knitwear, jewelry, paper goods, handbags, shoes, toys, cards and more!

Due to permitting restrictions, all food sold at the BUST Magazine Craftacular at World Maker Faire must be pre-packaged. If you would like to sell hot or prepared food at World Maker Faire, please email food@makerfaire.com.


What are the booth/table fees? What are the dimensions of a booth space?

One full booth fee includes a 10' x 5' space inside a BUST Craftacular tent, as well as 8' x 30" table and two chairs. BUST will provide all tents, tables, and chairs.

If you are sharing a booth, you will split the provided space and table with a partner.

The fee breakdown is as follows:

  • One day: $250
  • Two days: $350
  • One day, shared table: $150 (per vendor)
  • Two days, shared table: $200 (per vendor)

You will be prompted to pay your booth fee at the time of application. Your application will not be considered unless you have paid the booth fee in its entirety when you apply.


What will not be provided?

There is no access to electricity or running water in the BUST area of the World Maker Faire. We cannot guarantee reliable wi-fi access, so please plan accordingly. There will be a central charging station available for personal electronics.


Can I share a table?

Yes. If you already know the person you'd like to share with, please indicate their name on the application form. All vendors must apply separately and provide individual permits; each vendor will be juried individually.


When is the application deadline?

The application deadline is Monday, July 29 Friday, August 2. We will notify all vendors with our decisions on Monday, August 5.

 

What if I have to drop out of the Craftacular? What is your refund policy?

Once accepted, you have until Monday, August 12 to cancel and receive a full refund of your booth fee. If you have to cancel after that date, you can receive a 50% refund until Wednesday, September 4. After that date, no refunds will be issued.

All refunds will be issued less a $20 non-refundable jurying fee. This fee covers the administrative costs of jurying the hundreds of applications we receive for each Craftacular.


Do I need a vendor’s permit?

New York State requires a Certificate of Authority for all vendors who accept cash transactions. (This certificate shows that you are legally able to collect sales tax.) If you are a packaged-food vendor, you need a valid Food Protection Certificate in addition.

BUST and Maker Faire require that vendors have their certificates in hand a week before the Craftacular. If you do not already have this certificate, we highly recommend applying for it the week of August 5.

How will the BUST Magazine Craftacular at World Maker Faire be promoted?

The BUST Magazine Craftacular at World Maker Faire will be promoted with press releases, advertising placement on craft websites, and listings in local press as well as postcards, posters, and e-mail blasts to local and national mailing lists. Maker Faire will also be promoting the BUST Magazine Craftacular through its promotional channels.


What kinds of information will be listed on BUST Magazine's Craftacular website?

In addition to the online vendor application and FAQs, the BUST Magazine Craftacular website will list all participating vendors with a link to their company website. Once you are notified of your acceptance, please provide us with a .gif or .jpg banner of your craft company logo.

Banner ads should be 120 pixels wide x 60 pixels tall. They can animate, but cannot be in Flash format. All banners must be under 50k.

PDFs, Word documents, .eps, .tif, and any other file that does not meet these size and format requirements will not be posted on BUST.com.


How can I help?

We welcome all volunteers wanting to help spread the word on the BUST Magazine Craftacular or simply help out the day of the event! Promotional materials will be posted on the BUST Magazine Craftacular website closer to the event; please email craftacular@bust.com if you'd like to get involved in another way.
