ROY LICHTENSTEIN'S CRYING WOMAN Who says big girls don't cry?  A recently-released--not to mention pointless--poll estimates that women who live to age 78 will cry for 16 months of their life.  That's 12,000 hours of your precious time wasted sobbing away!

Okay, okay... I'm a pretty sensitive lady.  I'm not ashamed to admit that I was more than a little bleary eyed during my last break up, and I'm always sure to have Kleenex handy when Homeward Bound is replayed on TV (come on, when Shadow limps over that hill at the end whose eyes don't instantly moisten?).  And maybe, just maybe, I have a monthly cry-fest when my hormones get all out of wack.  But seriously, my age bracket is supposed to spend an average of 2 hours sniveling away a week?  I don't breakdown that much.

What makes this poll so depressing is its inherent sexism; It completely ignores the fact that the men-folk snivel, too.  To say that women turn on the waterworks so frequently is just reinforcing the assumption that men shouldn't shed tears.  Besides, pegging women as chronic weepers just makes us ladies seem frail and weak.  What's next?  Perhaps some good old-fashioned Victorian-era fainting spells will make the perfect, dramatic addition to our crying jags.

Do you ladies let it all out or hold back the flow of tears?  Can anyone lament about having the blues the ''average'' 2 hours a week?
