Okay, okay...so perhaps you already saw this video in 2011, shortly after PBS profiled the reunion of childhood-friend-elephants Shirley and Jenny at the Tennessee Elephant Sanctuary. But if you have even the slightest soul, you can watch it again, damn it. Separated for twenty-two years and held in captivity, these two gentle giants were afforded the chance to live free after long, lonely lives. And what happens when the two old friends meet again is possibly the most touching thing I've ever seen. Unless it's watching Jenny's best friend (zookeeper Solomon) say his goodbye.

If you're in the mood for a well-deserved weep, watch the video. And if you want some closure :sob: go here.  And think about zoos and circuses, which to this day remain ill-equipped places to safely hold and protect large wild animals! See this intelligent op-ed from Ed Stewart at the Performing Animal Welfare Society.
