This year, the series is proud to offer contestants the chance to show their work at New York Fashion Week and to win $100,000 or more to launch or expand their fashion line.    If ... Read More
Are you sitting down? Because this news is a game-changer: World of Wonder is producing a webseries called RuPaul Drives. In the show, the amazing queen of drag RuPaul takes special hitchhikers/friends/celebrities on drives (get it? drive as in "drag" race?). With RuPaul behind the wheel, guests will chat. They’ll just chat, that simple. And Ru will give passangers a chance to joke, philosophize, and confide in him: “Everyone in LA needs ... Read More
Yesterday, my fiance and I applied for our very first apartment. Hello, excitement, stress, and other emotions I don’t even think have words attached to them. The apartment is in a small college town where I went to school, a town we call “The Twilight Zone Town” because it is so idyllic and magical to us. Even though we don’t know if we will get the apartment, the place already feels like the home we’ve always wanted. ... Read More
The queen of everything country, Dolly Parton, recently chatted with Alecia Davis of “Extra” and confronted issues she’s had to deal with her whole professional career: rumors and gossip. Parton is remarkably composed and eloquent when asked about the circulating whispers of an esophageal cancer scare, smiling and firmly stating, “I will not make comment on some story in a rag magazine! I’m fine!” And she certainly seems ... Read More
There’s nothing quite like throwing an incredible pitch. I should know: I was the designated “pitch counter” for my high school’s softball team. No one warmed that bench quite like I did. But seriously, there’s something so triumphant in a great pitch, and such a pitch was thrown at a recent Doosan Bears game by South Korean actress and superstar taekwondo expert Tae Mi. Her athleticism is astounding, and when you see her epic ... Read More
In an admirable attempt to protest the ways in which vaginas are overly sexualized in porn and totally censored in mainstream media, The University of Sydney’s student paper Honi Soit recently published an issue with a brave and totally rad cover featuring the naked vulvae of eighteen students. Okay, they weren’t totally naked. The school’s Students Representative Council and their lawyers instructed the paper to obscure the images with ... Read More
A Waco, Texas pastor named A.J. Aamir recently banned the wearing of hair weaves by staff in his church. He justified his decision by saying that "black women are getting weaves, trying to be something and someone they are not." Um, hello controversy. Aamir, who grew up in an Islamic household, suggests with this statement that hair weaves project a false image of the woman wearing them, and that they should therefore be prohibited in the sacred place. The pastor ... Read More
Last week, writer Stefanie Williams wrote a piece for the Huffington Post where she talks openly about sex, and gets copious amounts of hate mail for it. Recently, strangers have been writing her calling her a “slut,” and Williams addresses these comments in the article. She notes the double standard between the sexes, claiming that men who enjoy sex are not often humiliated and berated as women in similar situations are.  Williams was ... Read More
Like so many others, my life revolves around my dog. My dog Remy’s life, however, revolves around fetch. I am woken many mornings by a joyous bouncing of her rubber orange ball, so (naturally!) I am always on the lookout for new innovations in the field of fetch.  This is a big one, ladies, so pay attention. A very special dog hailing from Kobe, Japan has figured out a way to play fetch by himself with the aid of only a few rocks and a strong water ... Read More
Ferrett Steinmetz and Daughter   At a recent panel following a screening of the new Amanda Seyfried film Lovelace, Gloria Steinem spoke out against excessive parental control over young women’s intimate lives: “I have always, always said that children must be allowed to disobey.” For weeks, I turned this comment over in my head. How does what we learn from our parents during our young adult years effect our ideas on gender and sexuality? Our ... Read More
