There’s Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Gloria Steinem and Dorothy Pitman Hughes, Catharine MacKinnon and Andrea Dworkin. There’s Debbie Stoller and Laurie Henzel. Add to your list of beautiful female friendships that overcame adversity Ruth and Idgie, named after the protagonists of the film Fried Green Tomatoes. Idgie is a caramel-hued dachshund; Ruth is a golden-eyed kitty.

They have have faced more than their fair share of heartache; both were abandoned on the side of the road, and Ruth is paralyzed with very limited mobility. When they were found together by animal control in Osteen, FL, Idgie refused to leave Ruth’s side. The pair has been adopted by the grooming facility Hollywood Houndz, a company that often works with animal adoption groups, where they both receive a ton of love. Idgie remains Ruth’s greatest protector, advocate, and friend. Whenever a new dog shows up for a grooming, Idgie makes sure she stands guard of Ruth, and whenever the pup gets a new toy, she plays show and tell with her beloved Ruth. What wonderful role models of love and friendship these furry friends are! Watch them in their new home below.
