Björk has taken to Kickstarter in an effort to give more kids access to her award-winning suite of musicology apps. The Biophilia apps were originally developed as part of her multimedia album of the same name. Named one of 2011’s Best Apps by Apple, the Biophilia programs offer instruction in science and music, and have already been used by children around the world. Kids at a Biophilia workshop in Oslo According to the artist, there is a great ... Unofficial Icelandic national hero (and sometime Brooklynite) Björk is back, baby. Her new MOCA-commissioned video for “Mutual Core,” from her 2011 album-cum-educational art installation Biophilia, is just as odd and visually stunning as you’d expect: the singer, decked out in an Ursula-esque blue wig, directs a cast of gravity-defying humanoid crustaceans in a cycle of colliding, kissing, and pushing each other away. (just ask Karen O!). The voices of the chorus of young women (they are from ... Read More
Bjork makes me believe in music. Since my first listen of Venus as a Boy, I have been entranced by what she can do with her voice, ingeniously combining it with unconventional instruments, sounds and collaborators. The genius mega-artist has released her eighth album, Biophilia, to breach the gap between nature, science, technology, and music. Not only does  Biophilia feature Tesla coil instruments, it is accompanied by an education program for middle ... Read More
