The BUST Craftacular @ World Maker Faire is fast approaching (Sat & Sun, Sept 20 & 21!) and since we have loads of pent up excitement about it we've been chatting with some of our wonderful vendors to bide our time until then. We recently sat down with Ali and Xime from Shadowplaynyc to find out where they get the inspiration for their mind blowing cosmic designs.

Every August, we get ultra-excited about the AfroPunk Festival, which takes place in Brooklyn, N.Y.C. The festival is a two-day celebration of music, fashion, art and culture. Aside from being packed with eye-popping musical performances and insanely good vibes, it's *also* a convergence of some of the most beautiful, stylish folks on the planet. We swear you won't find a better crowd for people-watching anywhere in the world.

Bustettes, we got a lot of rocking to do, and a lot of fundraising to do, and what a world we live in that we can do both simultaneously.
The Brooklyn Women’s Collective is presenting the ALL GRRRL GRILL which just so happens to be a barbecue consisting of all your favorite things in one place.

Brooklyn-based blues rock band She Keeps Bees dropped a new single from their forthcoming album recently, and the video for the song is just as beautifully surreal and eerie as the single itself.
"Is What It Is" comes out on the album Eight Houses on September 16th from the label Future Gods, which will be the band's fourth full-length album. If you're into some soulful, dark, and dreamy music with goose bump-inducing vocals, the album is ... Read More

Some weeks back, I found myself at & Lovers in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. The show’s line-up consisted of two openers (Lips and James Tillman) followed by the band Throw Vision. I made my way down there to chat with Throw Vision – a band that hails from Brooklyn and consists of four players: Tiff O who is lead vox and guitar; Taja Cheek on keys, vox, bass, synth, and guitar; Dan Kleederman on lead guitar, bass, and vox,; and Alex Goldberg on ... Patty Griffin’s latest album American Kid was released a year ago. Since then she’s been touring to promote. Patty and her kick ass band came around again to NYC for 2 shows and I was lucky enough to go to her Music Hall of Williamsburg gig this past Friday night.
Ms. Griffin and company held the audience captive for 90 minutes with selections from Patty’s catalogue as well as a few surprise numbers. If I had to use one word to describe Ms. ... Read More

I Love Train Delays.

With my brain trying to do so many things at once, I’m past exhausted by the time I pack up my bags to head home.
But this morning, when the train conductor’s strong Brooklyn accent ... Read More

Visual artist Kara Walker – an epic, epic person, for those of you who don't already know – is currently at work on a new piece in Brooklyn. In a departure from her typically 2D projects, Walker has taken over the ground floor of the abandoned Domino sugar factory in Williamsburg. All to build this:
This 75 foot tall sphinx – coated in a thick layer of donated Domino's sugar – is titled (in true Walker fashion): “A Subtlety: ... Read More
