This past Saturday’s SNL was a step up from the show’s material of late, with host Lady Gaga proving to be an actually pretty funny lady. What would have made the show even better, however, is this crazy unaired skit titled, “Female Sea Captains,” which is pretty much exactly what it sounds like.
Watch Lady Gaga and the rest of the kick-ass SNL ladies sail the high seas (sort of), mock traditional female stereotypes, and speak in crazy ... Read More

Hannah Horvath and her friends have it rough—they’re college-educated, financially supported, and so, so white (maybe not for long). And in a Saturday Night Live sketch that aired during this weekend’s season premiere, the Girls girls have a new roommate with whom to compete in their weekly misery poker: Blerta.

Trigger warning: contains link to graphic video on sexual assault.
A new parody video has been making the rounds on the global interwebs this past week: "It's Your Fault" is an extremely sarcastic response to the culture of victim-blaming and patriarchy that colors people's reactions to sexual assault.

Kathy Griffin is far from subtle; seriously, you don’t want to get on her bad side. The saucy comedian will skewer anyone who crosses her with her quick wit and biting tongue. Turns out, she won’t only stick up for herself. Womankind, Kathy Griffin has our backs.
And who has crossed some awesome lady celebs this week? No surprise: Perez Hilton. We all know about that time he totally violated Ke$ha’s privacy by posting intimate ... Read More
Like many others, we were shocked and appalled by Robin Thicke and Pharrell’s “Blurred Lines.” As the song’s title suggests, the song contains concerning lyrics that blur the very clear divide between consensual sex and abuse: New York Magazine's Ann Friedman explains that “phrases like ‘good girl’ and ‘I know you want it’ uttered in rapid succession [sound rapey].” The song stirred up more ... Okay, so Drunk History on Comedy Central is probably my new favorite show. I can’t watch even one segment without laughing to tears. It began as a Funny or Die series, which was created by Jeremy Konner and Derek Waters. What makes Drunk History so funny is the fact that they enlist actors to re-tell historical events, while being incredibly intoxicated. This show is majorly awesome!
Part of the hilarity is that the actors aren’t exactly accurate ... Read More

So blogging about the current state of things can get one pretty down. There aren't a lot of laughs when you're researching rape statistics. So, needless to say, I needed a little laugh. Being a huge comedy nerd, who frequents Maude Night at the UCB more than a sane person ought to, I checked out a new (ish) video from UCB-er Sasheer Zamata. This. Is. One. Funny. Lady.
"He pulled his dick out like he was trying to sell me a CD or something!"
In an interesting take ... Read More
