If anything good can come out of Dr. Tiller's murder, it would be that it seems to have mobilized the pro-choice movement. New groups and websites have been popping up left and right over the past few days, dedicated to the cause in different ways.I found this one, I Am Dr. Tiller , to have the potential to be very compelling. It is basically a collection of stories from people around the country who have in some way worked in the abortion field. It's not just ... Read More

Skaterrific!

BY Team Intern in Feminizzle |

Through an article from Jezebel, it was found out that Afghanistan is taking a few steps forward concerning gender equality. This was accomplished when the country opened Skateistan, a school for young children, both boys and girls. There they are taught on computers, the arts, and most interestingly of all, how to skateboard. In a country where women are not given the same rights as men, this is progress. However, there are still problems. After ... Read More

Judge Judy vs. Feminists

BY Laurie in Feminizzle |

In a response to the kerfufflle set up by the new double X site where one writer slams some other feminist writers, my favorite Jezebel blogger, (and former BUST staffer) Tracie 'Slut Machine' Egan posted this hilarious Judge Judy comic  that made me crack up. JJ grills some famous feminists (and exposes their drinking habits), takes no crap, and points out that feminists don't all have to agree. Wouldn't a real life throwdown between Judge Judy and Courtney ... Read More
Dalia Grybauskaite cinched nearly 70% of the vote for the presidential elections in Lithuania. Grybauskaite has been the European Commissioner responsible for Financial Programming and Budget since 2004. An unprecedented 51% of registered voters turned out for this election, making it possible for Grybauskaite to secure the presidency in the first round of elections in a system where two rounds is usually required. Despite her great achievements and ... Read More
This web intern has a serious pet peeve - technology marketed to women. So imagine my dismay at Dell's new site, Della. Of course, given the quality of the last two computers I had before I switched to Mac, I don't expect a whole lot from them. But seriously, marketing a new line of pretty pink laptops as eBook readers/diet monitors? Vomit.I don't want my computer to be pink - especially at the expense of function. I don't need cutesy little models to hold ... Read More

Do we have a prom theme going today?A group of high school students in Arcadia, CA, got misogynistic songs banned from their prom. They aren't eliminating all the current pop hits, nor are they lobbying for Jonas Brothers or other G-rated music groups, but are banning songs that refer women as 'ho's' or 'bitches'. Madeline Conrique and members of the Women's Health and Issues Club were able to get a petition signed at the school garnering 130 signatures and ... Read More
An Afghan school for girls was hit with poisonous gas yesterday. Over 100 people were hospitalized, some even slipped into comas. This is the third attack like this in as many weeks.Girls have only been allowed to go to school in Afghanistan since the Taliban was removed from power in 2001. Before that, women and girls were banned from education and work.Authorities are saying that Taliban sympathizers are probably behind these attacks. Blood from the ... Read More
Celebrate! The day began in 1992 when Mary Evans Young, a British feminist, decided something needed to be done about eating disorders and the huge diet industry. The point is to raise awareness of fat-phobia and size discrimination; fight the idea of the ''right'' or ''ideal'' body shape; fight the diet industry; and honor the victims of eating disorders and weight loss surgery. The blog Body Love Wellness has a post listing 16 reasons not to diet (ever). ... Rape IS Serious

BY Web Intern in Feminizzle |

We all know that the way the criminal system deals with rape is inadequate, to say the least. But Nicholas Kristof's 'Is Rape Serious?' op-ed in The New York Times on April 29 opened my eyes to just how dismal the situation really is--and to the fact that we need to do something about it.When a woman reports a rape, she usually submits to an extensive examination, an ordeal Kristof describes like this: 'She is typically asked to undress over a large sheet ...
