Upset has the makings for being one of the best bands out there right now and surprise, surprise: they totally are. Former drummer for Best Coast and Vivian Girls, Ali Koehler, takes on guitar and lead vocals, ex-La Sera member Jennifer Prince sings and plays lead guitar, and last we have drummer Patty Schemel of Hole and Death Valley Girls fame. The trio’s collective punk roots shine through on their latest project, Upset, the band you wish existed when you ... Read More
Courtney Love threw rose petals at me. I managed to get one, put it in my bra, and sure enough it had wilted by the time I got home. I felt like that pretty much summarized my quest to see her in Asbury Park.
But let me backtrack.
There are a few things you need to know about me before we proceed: I’m from Jersey.
I’m kind of an asshole.
I love Courtney Love more than anything. My high school years were lived ... Read More

Story reprinted from the June/July 2013 issue of BUST MagazineCourtney Love is not happy. She’s not happy with the pretty hairdo that the stylist has just worked on for an hour, not happy with the lovely look the makeup artist gave her, and not happy with the designer clothes the wardrobe stylists have picked out. And she’s definitely not happy with how she appears in the photographer’s first test shots. It’s not that she ... Read More

Rejoice - the high priestess of grunge hits the road solo this June! It’s been ages since she first claimed her throne as a '90s punk rock icon (Frances Bean isn’t a sprout anymore), but trust us - this mama hasn’t lost her edge.
When Hole played at Brooklyn’s Public Assembly last year, there were murmurs about a possible reunion tour (yes please!). For now, Courtney is heading off on her own with some new backing bandmates and a ... Read More

Hole reunited and played together in Brooklyn last week, and if you weren't lucky enough to be in the audience, don't shed mascara-filled tears--you can watch it below! The April 13th show saw Patty, Melissa, Eric, and Courtney play together again, in honor of the new rockumentary Hit So Hard, about drummer Patty's life. The band hadn't played together for 15 years, but they still made magic on that stage. Although the band members have been through plenty of ups ... Read More

Patty Schemel, former drummer for Hole (among others), is a survivor. She found success in one of the biggest acts of the 90s, but along with her rock-star lifestyle came some dark moments, and while Patty played the shit out of the drums, life equally played the shit out of Patty. The story of her life and career is told in Hit So Hard, a documentary that opens in theaters on April 13th.
A drummer holds every song together, and with her focused expression, steady ... Read More

Last week I caught a screening of Hit So Hard, the documentary about Hole drummer Patty Schemel, and despite some of its flaws (hokey title screens, confusing cuts, and about 20 minutes too many), I highly recommend it for any Hole fans. What I really took away from it though, is what an awesome drummer Patty is, and since female drummers are oft-overlooked and still rather few and far between, it inspired me to do a little video roundup of some of my favorite ... The greatest living lineup of Courtney Love’s ever-evolving rock band Hole was seen in public together for the first time in 13 years last night, but they weren’t announcing any future plans to play together. Instead, Love, Melissa auf der Maur, and Eric Erlandson were rallying around their estranged drummer Patty Schemel at the premiere of P. David Ebersole’s documentary about her life, Hit So Hard, which screened at New York’s Museum of ... Read More

She's a bitch, she's a lover she's a child' she's a mother, and she is back and better than ever.Courtney's new face and revamped Hole lineup shredded the Wellmont Theater with no remorse last Friday night in Montclair New Jersey. It's safe to say that the coveted queen hot mess cleans up real nice playing a strong set of classic Hole favorites like " Miss World", "Doll Parts" and "Violet" ... Read More
