Cute Band Alert

BY Lisa in Music Stuff |

I got your new awesome album right here. Cryptacize hails from Oakland, CA (fans of Deerhoof will recognize guitarist Chris Cohen) and I've been jamming out to their new record, Mythomania, since it came out a couple weeks ago. Its melodies are addictive (like Nedelle Torrisi's vocals) and moments of endearing twee and weirdness shine through the slow-synth jams and catchy, rockin'-pop hooks. They're hittin' the road next week so click through to see if they're ... Read More

It's not that often that I get THIS excited about a musician, but I am loco for this girl Karin Dreijer Andersson, one half of the Swedish brother/sister duo The Knife. Her solo record, Fever Ray (Mute) is a beautiful, haunting collection of songs that I am digging in a major way. (Look for more of this amazing artist in ... Read More

Annabel Alpers - New Zealand's one-woman-and-her-computer act Bachelorette - is about to release her third record, My Electric Family. The album nicely lives up to the description that Alpers gives for herself on Bachelorette's MySpace page - it is indeed like she ''took too many mushrooms and fell in love with a computer.'' The opening guitars of the first track, ''Instructions for Insomniacs'' have a repetitive, almost hypnotic sound to them. It would seem that ... Read More
So, last week we posted about Record Store Day , when indie music shops across the country hosted events and appearances by awesome artists. Well, that was last Saturday and while I wasn't able to go to any of the events, it looks like they were pretty fantastic.I was very upset that I couldn't go to Generation Records to see my favorite band, the Bouncing Souls, live and acoustic (*sigh*) so I thought I'd post a couple of YouTube videos of their performance. ... The band Saint Bernadette is proof that it's possible to be as sweet as an angel and edgy as hell at the same time. Despite the saintly name, lead singer Meredith DiMenna's silky smooth vocals, and the fact that the band collects money for charity wherever it performs, what Saint Bernadette does best is thrash around on stage and belt out bad-to-the-bone, throwback-drenched tunes that will rock you to the core: 'Face-melting rock,' as Saint Bernadette describes ...
