In the past couple of years, the number of Americans who support same-sex marriage finally surpassed the number of those who oppose it. Data was compiled by Pew Research Center. The numbers show that in 1996, 65% opposed it, while only 26% endorsed it. New data collected this past October shows that 49% are actually in favor of it, and 40% oppose it (which is down 4 % from this past July).
