HBO has really stepped up their game. Their documentaries are no exception to this. They seem to be resurrecting an art-from that had been pushed to the side in favor of instant internet journalism. We can safely say that, with the premier of Pussy Riot: A Punk Prayer, HBO has revived the documentary. The film, directed by Mike Lerner and Maxim Pozdorovkin, shows some never-before-seen footage of the trial and events leading up to that performance in ... Breaking news: Pussy Riot member Maria Alekhina was just denied parole, for the second time since the band's initial arrest. This comes after she declared a hunger strike yesterday in protest of unfair treatment by the Russian court system. Maria wasn't allowed to attend her own hearing in person - she was told to watch it via video link from her prison colony, which she said violated her rights.

It's rare to hear such sincere honesty and openness from an icon scrutinized by the public eye, but impressing us is something Kim Gordon does best. In a recent interview the feminist punk rock star continues to prove that Gordon is a strong, classy lady we at BUST will never stop fangirling over. She's been featured in BUST numerous times over the years, so you can imagine our excitement to read about her life now, as she works with her new band to appease our ... Read More

Feminist icon and punk legend Kathleen Hanna is one of my many heroes. Defiant activist, outspoken pro-choicer, amazing songwriter, skilled musician, and prolific zine author, my friends and all kind of wish we were her. Her ground-breaking riot grrrl band Bikini Kill changed punk forever but Hanna wasn’t going to stop there. After Bikini Kill broke up in 1997, she went on to start electronic-dance-punk band Le Tigre, which is now sadly on ... Read More

Rather than being a sexy piece of fruit or a sexy nurse or a sexy table (or this year’s new low: the “sexy body bag”), make a statement this Halloween.
1. Pussy Riot: Get a couple of girlfriends together, put on some colorful ski masks, and run around causing trouble! This costume is cheap and easy to put together, would be easy to recognize, and is totally topical.
2. The Atlantic cover about women having it all: Just dress up in ... Read More

One member of Pussy Riot is free, but two remain in prison. Today, an appellate court in Moscow set one of the three jailed Pussy Riot members free, but upheld the two-year prison sentences of the other two women, according to the New York Times.
A three-judge panel of Moscow City Court upheld the guilty verdict against all three women on charges of hooliganism motivated by religious hatred, for their anti-Putin “punk prayer” protest performance ... Read More

Three members of Pussy Riot who were arrested (Maria Alekhina, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, and Ekaterina Samucevic) currently remain in jail as their appeal hearing has been postponed to October 10. This court hearing may be the last chance for the musicians to be set free; alternate option would be sending the women to remote penal detention centers where they fear for their safety.
As this important date for the band approaches, J.D. Samson and Michael ... Read More

The three members of Pussy Riot who are currently imprisoned (Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, Maria Alyokhina, and Yekaterina Samutsevich) are fighting against being relocated from Moscow to a remote penal colony somewhere hundreds of miles away. There’s a possibility of the three women being set free on October 1 when they’ll head back to court to find out if their two year prison sentence has been repealed. The women don’t seem to think ...
