Show Review: Beats Antique

Posted by: BUST Magazine in Music Stuff |

I recently caught Beats Antique at The Howlin’ Wolf in New Orleans. The all-instrumental band, comprised of David Satori (guitar, viola, and percussion), Tommy Cappel (keys, percussion), and Zoe Jakes (belly dancer, composer, and producer) fuses Middle Eastern tribal sounds with experimental world music and electronica. Lynx, a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Colorado, was the opening act and wowed the crowd with her ... Read More

Last Thursday the 12th, at the strike of 6:00, I scooted out of the BUST office and excitedly headed straight to Pier 84 for the first free show of the Hudson River Rocks summer concert series, featuring Dan Deacon and John Maus. Cold Cave @ Terminal 5

Posted by: Jen Hazen in Music Stuff |

If you've been to New York City's Terminal 5 venue, you know that it's essentially the cage in the apocalyptic film Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome. But it was actually not a bad place to see NYC-based band Cold Cave, now on tour to promote their sophomore album Cherish the ... Read More

Vivian Girls @ Webster Hall

Posted by: Jen Hazen in Music Stuff |

Brooklyn-based trio Vivian Girls’ music just feels so, well, Brooklyn—a little gritty, rough around the edges, with lots of heart, and lots going on. I love Brooklyn. So much, in fact, that I live there atop the largest oil spill in U.S. history. No, I don't drink the water. Anyway, when I saw the trio of Cassie Ramone, Katy Goodman, and Fiona Campbell (new drummer!) play at New York City’s Webster Hall recently, it ... Read More

Holy Ghost! @ Terminal 5

Posted by: Jen Hazen in Music Stuff |

They're young. They're super cute. And they're coming to a dance floor near you. Actually, Holy Ghost! is probably on the verge of taking over every club's sound system around the globe. Okay, not every club, but tons of them. I checked out the five-piece Brooklyn-based band Saturday night at Terminal 5, wondering how their infectious club beats would translate to a live stage performance. All I can say is: Holy shit! Holy Ghost! is ... Read More
