Filibustering? Protesting? How about turning the tables on men's reproductive rights to get your point across? In the endless parade of this year's badass women leaders taking a stand, let's talk about the bill that Ohio Senator Nina Turner (D) introduced this spring.
SB 307 would essentially regulate men’s reproductive health in a more invasive way than ever before. The Cleveland Democrat compared the measure to men legislating “a woman’s ... Read More
Like any millennial who’s only passively political (to preface this, pretty much any knowledge of politics I’ve gotten through watching Parks and Rec, so bear with me) I monitored last night’s Wendy Davis filibuster from the comfort of multiple social media outlets. Facebook was on edge. Tumblr was casually throwing around the “Khaleesi” title (they would.) Twitter was filled with words of solidarity punctuted with ... Read More

If Arizona wasn't already getting you all riled up, now Texas is making things even more infuriating. Sunday night, hundreds of protesters crowded into the Texas capitol in an effort to stop the passage of Senate Bill 5. SB5 essentially piled all of the bills that didn't pass during Texas' normal session into one huge anti-abortion agenda. The bill is a whole bundle of abortion restrictions that will result in the closure of almost all of Texas' abortion clinics, ... Read More

As a proud Oklahoman, I will talk your ear off about how much I love my home state. It is full of wonderful people, great food, and really exciting scenes in cities like Tulsa (represent) and Oklahoma City. Unfortunately, most people wouldn't know that for all the idiots who make national press-- and they're usually in the government.
Today, my sigh of disappointment comes from the Senate-- yesterday, the Oklahoma government passed a measure banning gay marriage ... Read More

Some stories just slip through the cracks. Although it’s been almost three years in the works, the story of (ex) Dr. Kermit Gosnell’s Philadelphia abortion clinic, The Women’s Medical Society, has just now been brought to our attention (and horror).
The details are tragic and not for the faint-hearted. I sifted through the 280+ pages of the Grand Jury report, compiled by the courts, and I am still reeling. The gruesome details ... Read More

Feminist icon and punk legend Kathleen Hanna is one of my many heroes. Defiant activist, outspoken pro-choicer, amazing songwriter, skilled musician, and prolific zine author, my friends and all kind of wish we were her. Her ground-breaking riot grrrl band Bikini Kill changed punk forever but Hanna wasn’t going to stop there. After Bikini Kill broke up in 1997, she went on to start electronic-dance-punk band Le Tigre, which is now sadly on ... Read More

The GOP really does say the darndest things. Yet another attack on abortion rights is playing out in Alabama, courtesy of lawmaker Rep. Mary Sue McClurkin.McClurkin, who believes that a fetus is actually an organ (the largest one, no less), is using a new tactic to strike out against abortion in her new bill. She is sponsoring The Women's Health and Safety Act, which would curb women's ability to receive abortions in a couple of different ways. First, it ... Read More

As Roe v. Wade turns 40 this year, the discussion about reproductive rights in America is as heated as ever. With an election cycle that ushered in a slew of despicable comments about rape from politicians and pundits alike, the disparity between those for and against abortion in America became even more abundantly clear. But it turns out that all those misinformed comments about sexual assault and women’s health weren’t very persuasive—at least ... Read More

Planned Parenthood has released a new video as part of its Not in Her Shoes campaign, imploring viewers to set aside labels like “pro-choice” and “pro-life” when it comes to their ideas about abortion. We had a bit to say about this topic last week, as have many other sites and publications, feminist or otherwise. With so many Americans taking issue with these binary points of view, is does seem like the right moment to consider setting ... Read More

Hold on to your hats, ladies and gentlemen. The War On Women continues to rage (and enrage) in Michigan as two more abortion limitation bills reach Governor Rick Snyder’s office.
The Senate voted 27-10 to pass a bill that expands licensing requirements for abortion clinics—one of which stipulates the size of medical areas. That detail alone would shut down several clinics.
The second bill, which passed in to the full House, stipulates the right of ... Read More
